New Liebherr LTM 1090-4.2 enters service

Bronzeshield Lifting

The first of three new Liebherr mobile cranes is now working. A 60 metre boom, VarioBase and variable outriggers make it one of the most adaptable machines we run.

The new Liebherr LTM 1090-4.2 mobile crane

The first of three new Liebherr mobile cranes has arrived at Crayford and is now in service. The LTM 1090-4.2 is a 90 tonne four-axle all terrain machine, and it has quickly become one of the most versatile cranes in the fleet.

Why this one earns its place

The headline figure is the 60 metre telescopic boom, but the reason it gets specified so often is the support system underneath it. VarioBase allows each outrigger to be extended to a different length, and the crane's rated capacity is calculated for that exact configuration rather than the worst case.

In practice, that means a lift a four-axle crane could not previously take on a constrained site is now possible - because the machine no longer has to assume the narrowest setup on all four corners.

  • 90 tonne maximum capacity
  • 60 metre main boom
  • VarioBase with variable outrigger positions
  • Four axles, so it travels to site with less notice than the heavier machines

Two further Liebherr machines are due this year. As each arrives it will appear on the fleet page with its own specification.
