Basic Lift planner

What size crane do you need?

Put in the gross weight (including hook and tackle) and the radius from the centre of the crane based on an open area lifting over no obstructions. You get a spec of the machine straight away - No form, no wait, no phone call unless you want one.

How it works

Three things before you start

  1. Gross load

When using the tool ensure you have added the weight of the hook block and the lifting tackle you will use to ensure the selection suits.

  2. Measure the radius

The measurement from the centre of slew of the crane, to the centre of gravity of your load. Round up to the next radius on the chart if you are not sure - it is always the safer way to read it.

  3. Read the class, then talk to us

You get the size of machine the chart calls for and which of ours meet it. The tool is to help with a quick size of crane.

Gross load and radius

Before you use this

This sizes a crane on main boom at ground level, basic rig. It is a starting point, not a lift plan. Checking the machine's own chart against the actual configuration - counterweight, outrigger base, jib, slew angle and ground - remains the lift planner's responsibility.

0.5 t20.0 t
Everything on the hook - the load, the chains, the spreader and the shackles. Round up. The chart stops at 20.0 t; heavier lifts are sized by our technical team.
-tonnes
7.0 m78 m
Crane centre to the middle of the load. Round up to the next radius.

Mobile tower and truck mounted machines are sized a different way and are not covered by this chart. Ask us about them separately.
